The PlayStation 5
Find Out MoreSony’s PlayStation 5 released to North America, Japan, and to other countries on November 12, 2020. The system launched with great launch titles, with the best titles being Demon’s Souls, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Each game offered a different experience, Demon’s Souls offered an experience filled with challenging gameplay and incredible world design. Miles Morales offered fast-paced third-person gameplay as you swing across New York fighting villains. Sackboy offered a fun and creative experience as you platform through various different levels.
The biggest selling point behind the PS5 wasn’t just that it's stronger and faster than the PS4. The PS5 included an SSD, allowing for developers to make use of it by creating worlds that don’t require load times. The PS5 also introduced a new controller called the DualSense, which includes haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Haptic feedback elevated the user experience by simulating the feeling of an environment in a video game. The adaptive triggers elevated the user experience by including tension at the triggers.
After two years, there continues to be a lack of availability for the PS5. Sony has made promises that they’ve ramped up production on the system, and that systems will be available in stores next year in 2023. Multiple PS5 exclusives have been released, those being Returnal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, and The Last of Us Part 1 Remake. Multiple games have also been announced as PS5 exclusives, those being Final Fantasy XIV, Forspoken, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The PS5’s future is looking really bright if Sony continues down the path they’ve set for themselves.
