The Current Generation of Video Gaming

What Makes Video Games Special!

Video game consoles were first introduced to the world during the 70s. The Odyssey, Atari, and Nintendo Entertainment System are just some of the first video game consoles to ever release. And 50 years later, video games continue to capture the hearts of the masses through the amount of joy they elicit. Video games as a form of entertainment are incredibly interesting, it’s not like a television show or a book. Television shows and books don’t allow for people to interact with the story and content in any sort of way. Video games allow for people to interact with the world created, interacting with NPCs, fighting enemies, and doing quests.

Video games are for everybody and there’s no age limit. There are tons of different video game genres that offer different experiences. Life simulation games such as Animal Cross and the Sims offer a laid back experience. First-person shooters can offer the player fast-paced action as they blast their way through enemies. Role-playing games can offer experiences in which the player takes the role of the game’s main character.

There’s a lot of people who enjoy playing video games for the story. Video games can offer rich and engaging stories, stories that rival movies and books. The stories told through video games can elicit emotions ranging from pure happiness to crying. The player’s interaction with the different elements of the game is what evokes those feelings. A connection is formed between the player and the game as they are drawn into the video game’s world.

Some people love video games for their multiplayer aspect, competing with others across the globe, battling to be the very best. Competitive tournaments were created to gather the world’s best players to compete with one another. There are competitive tournaments for fighting games, first-person shooters, and MOBAs. Over the past decade, eSports tournaments continue to grow in popularity, attracting eyes from people who don’t even play games. Esports has gained in popularity so much that it's often played in sports bars.

Since the dawn of video game consoles, the console war has raged on. The argument between which video game console is better is incredibly dumb. There’s not a single video game console that’s better than the other, rather they all have their own unique qualities that one might prefer over the other. Each system offers a unique game library, each game with its own unique story and characters who are waiting to be introduced to.
